MS Dhoni has been the captain cool of team India and it looks like the neighbors have found one too. Pakistan cricket has gone through a lot in the last couple of years. Spot fixing controversy , volatile team management and playing home games at a neutral venue. All of these challenges are very difficult for players and even more for fans and this environment is quite unhealthy for positive cricket and consistent performance.This was clearly visible in erratic team performance and lack of self belief among players. With Misbah-ul-Haq as the captain, the team has looked to move in the right direction.
Let’s look at what he has done till now:-
1)He has brought a calming influence in the team -. He looks calm and serene on field and this clearly shows in the way he handles his team-mates and game situations. Not to forget he made his international debut quite late. He persisted when others might have quit and finally he was rewarded for his persistence and performance. He’s now transferring his healthy personal traits to his team mates.
2) He has shown faith in individuals.- It’s rightly said that sometimes people become what you expect them to be. There are some individuals who
need others to believe in them before they start believing in them. A clear example is Abdur Rehman the left arm spinner who has slowly come forward as a match winner than just a defensive bowler. Rehman has always been talented but perhaps not given enough confidence or chances to make mistakes,
with Misbah in command it’s good to see him progress. For any leader it’s important that his team-mates become better at their jobs than they presently are
and Misbah has shown signs that he can lead people in that direction.
Misbah’s biggest challenege will come when the team plays on fast, bouncy and swinging tracks. I hope he can inculcate a culture in the team where people
learn to play honest , fair and tough cricket.
